The “Museo de las Américas” was the brainchild of Don Ricardo Alegría, one of Puerto Rico’s most staunch defenders of Puerto Rican culture, and Director of the Puerto Rico Institute of Culture at the time. The entire facility is dedicated to different facets of Puerto Rican and American culture.

It is bounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the north and to the south by San Juan Bay (or "Bahia de San Juan")—which lies between the city and the mainland. On a cliff about feet (30 m) high, at the west end of the island and commanding the entrance to the harbor, rise the battlements of Fort San Felipe del Morro, in which there is a lighthouse.

  1. Plaza de San Juan is Paco de Lucia's 3rd alegria from the best album of his 2nd period Fuente y Caudal. It is a short piece which, I believe, he expanded on a few interesting musical ideas to complete the album. The original recording is done in a free style without a rigid compas structure. However, I played it over the flamenco metronome to better observe how alegria works as a palo in terms of its accents. This also will make it easier for you to learn how to play alegria .
